Pints is a small app for ranking pints with friends. We collect only what we need to run it, we don't show ads, and we never sell your information. This page explains what we keep, why, who can see it, and how to remove it.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address (to sign you in with a code), your username, and, if you add them, your name and profile photo. We only email you sign-in codes and messages about your account, never marketing.
- What you do in Pints: pubs you rate and where they sit in your list, optional details (what you drank, atmosphere, service, crowd, price, and a short note), your want-to-try list, who you follow, people you block, reports you make, feedback you send us, pubs you add, invite links, and crawls you plan, join, invite people to or check in to.
- Comments and photos on crawls: what you write and the photos you add. Photos are shrunk on your phone before they're sent, which also strips the hidden details cameras store in them, including where the photo was taken.
- Your location, only briefly: if you allow it, your phone's position is used to show nearby pubs and to check you're at a crawl stop when you check in. We use it for that moment and don't store it. A check-in records only the pub and the time, never where you were. If you don't share it, pub search uses the rough area (town level) our hosting provider works out from your internet connection to put nearer pubs first, also only for that search and never stored.
- Technical basics: like any website, our hosting providers see your IP address and browser type when you visit, and keep short-lived logs for security and to keep the service running.
Who can see what
- Your username, name and photo can be seen by anyone signed in to Pints.
- Your list, ratings and crawls are seen by everyone or only friends, depending on your "Show my list to" setting in Account. New ratings appear in your followers' feeds on the same terms.
- Crawls are also seen by people the organizer invites, and by anyone they send the crawl's link to (its name, time, stops and organizer, even before signing in). Notifications (such as "Sam invited you to a crawl") are seen only by the person they're for.
- Optional rating details, including notes, are seen by the same people who can see your list.
- Comments and photos on a crawl are seen by anyone who can see that crawl. Photos are stored privately and only shown to them, through links that stop working after an hour. The crawl's organizer can remove any of them.
- People you block, and people who block you, can't see each other at all.
- Your email address is never shown to anyone.
On your device
We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to remember an invite link you opened before signing up. Your phone also remembers a few preferences, like Light or Dark mode, where you last left the map and your recent searches; these stay on your device. There are no advertising or analytics cookies.
Services we use
These companies help run Pints and only handle your data to do that job for us:
- Supabase: our database, sign-in and photo storage.
- Vercel: hosts the app.
- Resend: sends sign-in codes and account emails.
- Sentry: tells us when something breaks. We've switched off sending personal details with these reports.
- OpenFreeMap: draws the map. Its servers see your IP address when map tiles load.
- Cloudflare: runs our web address and passes on email sent to hello@pintsranked.com.
- Google (Gmail): where emails you send us are kept, so we can reply.
We don't sell or share your personal information for advertising, and we don't use it to build profiles of you.
When we share it
Beyond the services above, we only share information about you:
- when you choose to, for example by sending someone a crawl link;
- if the law requires it, such as a valid court order, and only what's asked for;
- to protect someone's safety, or to stop fraud, abuse or attacks on Pints;
- if Pints is ever merged or sold, with whoever takes it on, who must keep to this policy. We'd tell you first.
Where it's stored
Pints is run from the United States and your information is stored there, mainly on servers in the eastern US. If you use Pints from elsewhere, your information goes to the US.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep your information while you have an account. You can change your name, username, email, photo and privacy setting in Account at any time, and remove any rating from your list. Delete account (at the bottom of Account) permanently removes your account, list, details, follows, crawls (with everything posted on them), invites, check-ins, notifications, profile photo, and the comments and photos you posted on any crawl. You can also delete a single comment or photo yourself at any time. Pubs you added stay on Pints without your name, and reports you made are kept without your name so we can keep the community safe. Feedback you sent is kept without your name too, so we can keep improving Pints. Copies in our daily backups are cleared within about a week. Security logs and error reports are deleted automatically within 30 days.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have the right to know what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it, or delete it. Most of this you can do yourself in the app; for anything else, including a copy of your data, email hello@pintsranked.com from your account's email address, so we know it's you. We'll answer within 45 days, and if you disagree with our answer, reply and we'll look at it again. We'll never treat you differently for asking.
Age
Pints is only for people 21 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger; if you think someone under 21 is using Pints, let us know and we'll remove their account.
Security
Sign-in uses one-time codes, so there are no passwords to steal. Connections are encrypted, and our database only lets each person reach what they're allowed to see. No system is perfect, but we work to keep your information safe. If a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you as the law requires.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app or by email for anything important. Questions? Write to hello@pintsranked.com. See also our Terms.
